Warhammer 40K - Misc FCs by renzoku Warhammer 40K - Misc FCs by renzoku
Three of the feature characters of my Warhammer 40K Imperial Guard army, the 512th Alvarian. From left to right, Colonel Reese Kessel [an independent character], Sergeant Karina Loucks, and First Sergeant Caden Frost [both Imperial Storm Trooper Veteran Sergeants].

They have backstories and details that I'm not going to bother you with. Blah blah blah.

Yes, I play Warhammer 40K now. God, I'm such a geek.

[EDIT:] Yes, Karina looks mannish. This is due in part to the model and in part to my inexperience with painting and lack of equipment [I painted all three of these with one brush]. The reason her leg armor looks so lumpy is because it was hand-modeled from Green Stuff putty, as the Imperial Guard is severely lacking in female miniatures.

Very nice models.
What improvments have you done to Reese Kesselīs Bolter?
DR27 Featured By Owner Feb 14, 2011
I got around the lack of female modles by making customs with kit bashing. (odos are you already have come up with that one though.) Cool models anyway I like the power fist.

I'm not too worried about her looking mannish, but I am kind of worried about the fact that every part of her is armored except her torso. Trying to get a job with Heavy Metal magazine?
jboweruk Featured By Owner Jun 11, 2010
Still cool looking minis mate. And yes it's stupid they don't do more female IG models. I think maybe they should just so 1 sprue of each Catachan and Cadian to go with the others. Perhaps sell them as bitz. Would look cool. Otherwise the only real choice you have is Schaeffers Chancers which have 2 female models in.

Very nice job man. Is Colonel Reese Kessel's sword really as large as him, or is there just some odd bit of perspective going on?
renzoku Featured By Owner Oct 22, 2009  Hobbyist Digital Artist
It is. Or just about, anyways... It's the sword from the Space Marine Emperor's Champion pewter figurine. :P

Here's a link to a deviation featuring a newer, more distinctive version of Col. Kessel: [link]

May I suggest, though it might be a pain and require a bit of repainting, take a small fine file and pull her jaw line in under her cheek bones and sharpen her chin up a touch. Also maybe make her neck just a touch slimmer, this may make her appearance a bit more feminine. Maybe sharpen her glare a bit too just with paint though. I hope these suggestions are not too intrusive, and they do look really kick ass as is, lot's of character to each of them. Great work!!

If I had those, they'd spearhead my army! lol.

Awesome pieces, I think I may do that to a couple of my catachans.

No apologizes necessary, your work is quite good. Very few of the female figures, that GW sells, look like a Barbie Doll, so you did very good with the conversion work. I would like to attempt a conversion myself, can you tell me which figure supplied which parts?

Thanks in advance. Keep up the good work.
GolanArms Featured By Owner Aug 16, 2008
where did he get the female btw? i'm dying to know.
nomyai Featured By Owner Aug 23, 2008
I believe she's a modified Female Catachan with Grenade Launcher (Part # 010515001). Her right arm, hair and body armor pads look modified.

Green stuff solves all :P . Karinas modeled from a catachan miniature isn't she?
renzoku Featured By Owner Apr 18, 2007  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Yessir. Grenade launcher girl, as I call her. She's actually hard to get ahold of these days, I think. Or I just have never found her at any other stores.

The only way I know of adding female Imperial Guards to an army is to use House Escher Necromunda models.

But nice work on the conversion.
kajiceconrad Featured By Owner Aug 27, 2006
Cool! It's good to see some unique guard characters for a change.

Woohoo! Another soul succumbs to 40K! I really applaud that, but it would've been even better if you started with Warhammer Fantasy, for reasons that should be obvious if you think about why I'd say such a thing ;)

I'm sorry dear, but you are irrevocably a geek. ;p I like the action shot, though.

bladerain Featured By Owner Dec 21, 2005  Hobbyist Writer
Ok... so... Add another geek - Though I'm more of a Ultramarine kind of guy! Cool scheme (most IG use cammo of some sort, and this looks really cool!)
renzoku Featured By Owner Dec 21, 2005  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Oh, hey. Cool! I'm an Airsofter also. Or I was until I went off to University! My team just got ahold of a Classic Army M249 SAW which I'm looking forward to getting my hands on when I drive home tomorrow. ;P
renzoku Featured By Owner Dec 21, 2005  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Hey, thanks! About the color scheme - the 512th Alvarian is a regiment of soldiers dedicated to the cause of liberating humanity from planets occupied or harassed by the presence of Xenos. They were created for a special campaign my friend is running. On the Imperial side are the Imperial Guard [me], the Dark Angels Space Marines, the Daemonhunters, and the Witch-hunters. The latter two suggest that something much darker and more sinister is occupying the planet than the IG or DA are aware of, as did the unexpected arrival of a force of Necrons during a battle.

Their gray and white scheme is partially based on the armor/uniform spec for a comic book idea I was flinging around for a while. I'm not sure if I have any pieces with the scheme intact but I'm sure there's one lurking in my gallery somewhere.

Also - I totally crushed an army of Space Marines the other day in a 1,500 point game. :D Seek and Destroy, I beat him by 1,300 points. We were both new, but he didn't seem as familiar with exactly how his units work. My artillery took out nearly half of his forces in the first round.

I get smashed on a daily basis (but then again I love painting... I just can't seem to get the hang of the strategy part! LOL!)

As for airsoft... Well... I'm pretty much a pointman, so G36c serves me right. The FaMas simply got outdated by it! But my next purchase is the M16Vn+M203!!!
